A fall can change everything. Preventing one is in your hands
Falls are the leading cause of injury among older adults. A hip fracture can mean losing your independence. The good news: most falls can be prevented.
At home
- Remove loose rugs and cables from the floor.
- Install grab bars in the bathroom and a non-slip mat in the shower.
- Improve lighting, especially in hallways and stairs. Leave a light on at night.
- Keep everyday items within hand's reach. Don't climb on chairs.
In your body
- Have your vision checked once a year.
- Talk to your doctor about your medications: some cause dizziness or drowsiness.
- Wear closed shoes with non-slip soles.
- Strengthen your legs and balance: walking and simple exercises help a lot.
How we help at EMC
We assess your fall risk, review your medications, and use TM Flow to evaluate your circulation and nervous system — both of which directly affect balance.
